Canadian-American Junior Hockey League Announces Dormancy for 2024/25 Season

Vegreville, AB (July 23, 2024) - The Canadian-American Junior Hockey League (CAJHL) regrets to announce that it will be dormant for the upcoming 2024/25 season. This decision has been made in order to refocus and collaborate with various stakeholders to develop a stronger owner-based and community-based presence within the league.

Despite receiving numerous expressions of interest from communities and potential owners, the CAJHL, unfortunately, did not receive the necessary commitments in time to successfully establish new teams for the upcoming season. However, the league remains committed to working closely with these individuals and communities over the next year to build a more robust and resilient league.

Throughout its history, the CAJHL has been dedicated to developing players, guiding them towards higher-level hockey opportunities and/or education. As we move forward, the league will continue to operate with transparency and openness, fostering collaboration with like-minded individuals and communities who share our vision for the future of junior hockey.

"While it is regrettable that we find ourselves on this path, we firmly believe that this temporary dormancy will provide us with the opportunity to emerge as a better and stronger league," said Norm Shaw, Commissioner of the CAJHL. "By taking the necessary steps now, we are confident that we will be able to build a league that not only thrives on the ice but also serves as a pillar of the communities it represents."

The CAJHL remains grateful for the ongoing support of its fans, players, coaches, and staff. The league looks forward to the continued dedication and enthusiasm from all stakeholders as we work together to shape the future of junior hockey.
